Opera in the Streets – A Cultural Experiment

Culture in Berlin is in crisis, and opera—already a niche art form—is in danger of disappearing. We're taking opera out of the theater and into public spaces, performing short dramatic programs to see who stops to listen.

Over the spring and summer seasons, we’ll engage directly with audiences, gathering insights from those experiences. What draws people in? What makes them stay?

Most importantly:
What would make opera more engaging for modern audiences?

We will shape future productions based on what the public wants to see and hear. Keep an eye out—surprise opera performances are coming to a public space near you!

“The word theatre comes from the Greeks. it means the seeing place. It is the place people come to see the truth about life and the social situation. The theatre is a spiritual and social X-ray of its time. The Theatre was created to tell people the truth about life and the social situation.”

-Stella Adler

"Opera is one of the most important art forms. It should be listened to and appreciated by everyone because it combines all the arts—singing, acting, dance, music, and poetry. It is a complete expression of human emotion."

-Luciano Pavarotti
